Moon Feature

Journal Entry: Tue Oct 30, 2012, 9:56 AM

I saw a moon photo somewhere on here a while ago and realised that the moon was rotated from the view that I see down here in Australia.  Yes, it does stand to reason, but I hadn't paid any attention to it until that moment.  So I've been looking at various images around dA and have now made a small list of thumb numbers and would like to Feature them all.

I've arranged them according to the position of one particular crater on a virtual clock face.

If you want to see which crater I am meaning look at the crater the 'plane' nose is pointing at fav.me/d5jjglb My dear friend Mark :icongunmetal-rat: tells me "That's The Proclus Crater On The Shores Of Palus Somni ( Marsh Of Sleep )" Thanks Mark :iconblakelord:

I'd be very happy if you can look out for photos of the missing clock positions so that I can complete my set.  Any idea on which countries would provide the correct view?

I dedicate this feature to a beautiful friend, Donna :iconbrightstar2: who I know loves moon photos and who I instantly thought of when I first intended to make this Feature.

Much love to all

Did you read in the Feature description where I show one particular crater that I'm focussing on? Well, I have that particular crater photographed at almost every position around a circle. I'm just missing it at the same place as a number 7 on a clock face. I think it needs to be a photo taken around your part of the world to see it that way. That's why I put all the locations of where the photos were taken - to see how the moon looks from different parts of the world. I think it's really interesting.
Well, I have to go out now, but good luck if you can find a '7 o'clock' for me :eager: Thanks you Sandy :iconalesiandra:

May, these are sooo cool, I've tryed to take photos of the moon but they never look this great. It's kinda hard now with no camera, so I'll just look at these and see if I can find the 6&7 o'clock ones for you as I make my DA rounds. wonderful job with this journal!

Thank you so much Barb! I always used to get yellow glowing blobs when I photographed the moon until someone told me 'it's a lot brighter than you think!'. So I sped up my shutter speed and then you get the detail of the craters to show and it's so exciting! Thank you so much for keeping an eye out for the missing 'o'clocks' for me :eager:

Multumesc Selina, I didn't know your name means moon, how lovely! I am a Cancerian star sign and so I am (apparently) ruled by the moon so I guess you can boss me around if you want to :giggle:

WOOO THis is really cool MAY
It is quite interesting how the moon seems shifted in different places
I know when we were in the Caribbeans and we noticed especially when it was half a moon
that is was a completely different angle from the way we see it in Canada :w00t::w00t::w00t:
Great Journal feature and Info

Thanks Gigi, I'm so pleased that you've enjoyed looking at this. During Winter our new moon forms a 'U' or cup shape and the Aboriginal people say that during months when the moon is like this it shows that much rain will come. I always think of that when I see a new moon, and always check out if it would hold water or not.
