Thank you so much, May!  You're one of the nicest people anywhere, and I appreciate you.  I just noticed that your hubby's birthday is one day after mine. We'll both be turning 29  ;)

Naawwww, thank you so much dear Julie that means a lot!
I believe it for you to turn 29 because you're young and beautiful, but my other half...  Well, he's beautiful on the inside
but getting a bit rugged on the outside   He'll be 59, but it means absolutely nothing with him, he's still fit (runs 7
kilometers [nearly 5 miles] even up and down hills without stopping) and young at heart.

Happy upcoming birthday to everyone!
This is a very thoughtful and beautiful gift, thank you May.

The idea of the image is wonderful, in my opinion the pink and blue fits nicely together. The water drops are nice add too.
I didn't quite understood the description about the stock image. What were floating on water and what was horrible brown?

How you could improve this, is that you could soften the petal edges.
Make your selection with your favourite selection tool, and press the refine edge button on the tool bar, or press right mouse button over the selection and hover over the refine edge option there. Now you can fine tune the selection. I think this could use some amount of 'softness' and 'feather'.
I don't remember, but did I made you a tutorial about healing/clone brush tool and include there how to use refine edge?
If not, I can explain you how the option works, if you need any help with it.

You're so welcome Toni :iconkimberely:

To explain better...  The flowers were floating in water in an ornamental (but genuine) rowing boat in a cafe garden.  Because of the wooden interior of the boat the water looked brown.  I loved the flowers so much and wanted to use the shot.  The published shot is not the same as this thumb.

You're right - where I've erased to original background I used a hard-edged eraser and the edges do need softening.  I think you did do a tutorial, I will look for it, though I think your description here will be enough.  Thank you :iconrubcheeksplz:  I'll have a go at improving it tonight (it's 10:30am now).

 :iconbwaaahplz: Thank you Toni :iconbwaaahplz:

You are most welcome!
I thought you had forgotten some words from the description, I was thinking that there was something floating on the stock photo which was brown. Well, I was tired and going to sleep at the moment I wrote that comment, so my brain wasn't fully functioning. :D

I prefer using selection tools for everything, but an eraser can be faster.
Good luck at the improving. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask. :)

Oh that's alright Toni, don't worry.  I was erasing what the selection tool had left behind - just going around the edges in an OCD way.  Do you know the English OCD, or do you need a better description?  It stands for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

I think I have improved it somewhat now :fingerscrossed:  After this I would be 'out of my depth' to know what to do.

I know what OCD means. I don't have the disorder, but behave like so in the case of hand crafts/creating things with hands.
For example, if I'm editing some photo and there is some small flaw somewhere, I might fine down the small spot for hours and never be satisfied to the result, even though nobody else doesn't even notice the flaw. Same with construction painting which I'm currently studying. I'm using a lot of time in unnoticeable small details. I'm too perfectionist.

Now the edges look more natural, good job.
In the refine edge option, you can (easily) detect the edges by increasing radius (and ticking the box for smart radius) + adjusting the edge options with smoothness and feather, for example.
So it is not always necessary to manually fine tune what the selection tool have left behind by hand. Of course, because it's only a machine that calculates the edges in the refine edge, the result might not always come as nice as hoped, but in most cases yes.

I have OCD to some degree.  I saw a joke recently where someone said it should be called CDO so that the letters are in alphabetical order, as an OCD person would prefer ;)

Perfectionist traits are not always bad :tighthug:

Thank you Toni - I was happier with this after your guidance.  Believe it or not I had not known to right click to show a menu in PS :iconteheplz:  I enjoyed playing around with the 'refine edge' I hadn't used that before.  I found it hard to see what I was achieving because of the 'marching ants' being over the top of the edges, so I ended up just doing something and then 'undo' if I didn't like the result and try again.  And that's good because it helped me learn.

I'm very glad that I have been able to help you improve.

You can change the marching ants in the refine edge for example to a red transparent colour. If I remember correctly, it can be changed from the first section, 'View Mode' in the refine edge window. There should be a square or rectangle showing your selection, press it to open and there should be different options how the program shows your selection. (I hope I remembered correctly)

That is a good way to learn, to undo the results and redo them then differently. I have done that hundreds and hundreds of times and now I know what options and how much I need to adjust to achieve the result I'm hoping for. But of course I still have a lot to learn about PS.

I'll watch for that Toni, thank you so much!

I doubt there's anyone, anywhere that knows everything about PS.
