Dream Harp Finished by MayEbony Dream Harp Finished by MayEbony
This past weekend - a 3-day weekend because of Australia Day - I was up 3 hours early each day to get to a woodworking workshop. There were plenty of new skills to learn, and many brave steps to take to create it. I've been around wood workers my whole life - both grandfathers, my father-in-law, husband and eldest son, but this is the first time I've come remotely close to creating something myself.
Here are some shots of it being made... Dream Harp Creation by MayEbony and the photo that I used for the feature design inside the harp Valentines Forever by MayEbony
Kindly requested by :iconcreative-focus: :iconharpart: :iconfantasycrafts: and featured by :iconthegalleryofeve: Through my eyes - Feature 1 I've been collecting beautiful artwork created by very creative people I've had the pleasure to meet here on DA, and I've decided to start this series of features full of beautiful things to see, made by people who are very dear to me.
The list is long, so I will be presenting them all in subsequent features, it would be impossible to have them all here.
So please join me, and take a look at these artists' works ... please see them "through my eyes" ... visit their galleries, and I can assure you that you will be delighted!

:bulletpink: who take the time to suggest DD's on a more or less regular base
:bulletpink: who take the time to suggest seniority every now and then

:bulletpink: or what else helpful, kind, supporting they might do
You can read all about it Here

Absolutely beautiful! I've never done any woodworking, but it's a skill I'd like to pick up someday! I really admire you for this.

Thank you very much Erin :iconrubcheeksplz: It was my first venture, despite a lifetime of family members working with wood around me. Here's a model farm cart that my grandfather made for me [link] He even made the tiny metal parts by cutting the metal shapes from cans. He was a woodturner by trade.

:iconaliennoplz: I'm a bit of an addict :iconteheplz: I love your gallery! My favourite was the hair wraps - how do they stay up, is there a clip at the top? Beautiful idea though.

There's a pin that goes in the middle you just push it down the strand and it displaces the hair so it's a bit thicker and it keeps the wrap in since it tightens the home on the hair since in essence it "thickens" the strand up :D

Much obliged! I'm glad you enjoy them. You can never be too old for them! But they are hard to wear in regular society most days. Some people don't understand as much as others unfortunately or I'd have em everyday!

The general public are getting more accepting of varied tastes in clothing and accessories but yes, they still have a way to go.

Yes I did Edie :icondragonnod1: There were 3 other girls in the 3-day workshop as well and we all came away with a harp with our own design that we'd carved in the middle. The tutor and each of us in turn used a drill press to help remove excess wood, but most of it was done chip by chip with various chisels and a mallet.

Thank you so much David :iconttaasst: Yes that was the first trip to Melbourne and Victoria. Otherwise we'd only landed in, and immediately left, the airport in 1999. If you want to read my opinions of, and adventures in, Melbourne you could have a peek at my holiday blog [link] But I'm not holding you to it :tighthug: It was a beautiful and interesting place. Far more history than Perth I feel.

Yup, that's me! For the last one, by the time I got down to the finer details I had to work without my (short-sighted) glasses on and the work bench was too low so I sat on the floor where I could see better.

That's why I was cross-legged on the floor for carving the finer details. I needed to be close to see without my glasses, and bending over the workbench was *not* going to happen!

Thanks so much Coco :icondarkroze: I'm growing my hair and it's a bad length for my face shape, plus pigtails keep it off my neck and out of my eyes when I'm running or working.
I've looked for your new photos a couple of times - hint, hint... ;)

The pics are coming ~ I seem to be a little bit 'river-lagged' and there are so many to choose from! :icontsovaplz: Coco
